We are approaching the end of the skiing season, and it is time to make your plans if you still need to make your reservations. If you are in North Carolina, then you are in luck with plenty of ski resorts to take advantage of. The Blue Ridge Mountains hold many fantastic slopes to explore if you know where to go. Here are our favorite skiing destinations to get the most out of the last few weeks of the season!
Sugar Mountain Ski Resort
At 125 acres, this is thelargest of the skiing destinations in North Carolina, with the most diverse range of runs. This means you will find plenty of abilities for every skill type, beginner through expert. Apart from being the largest, Sugar Mountain is also the steepest. Its most vertical drop at 1,200 feet solidifies this as a top destination for North Carolina resorts. A new high-speed detachable quad lift means the uphill ride is only two minutes long. Two thousand four hundred skiers can ride up to the top creating short wait times for everyone on the hill. With new snowmaking equipment and night skiing available, you’re sure to have fun every hour at Sugar Mountain!
Beech Mountain Ski Resort
Beech Mountain is a local favorite to North Carolinians. At 5,506 feet high, this resort is the state’s highest. Between 17 runs and 95 acres, there is plenty of room for skiers to enjoy. There are plenty of fun features, including bumps, rails, and other skill-testing mechanisms. Are you into tubing? They have a specialized snowmaking system on the prominent hill, which creates the perfect ground to slide down. If you like night skiing, stay on the slopes until 9 PM every day this week until the season ends!
Appalachian Ski Resort
Are you looking for a park with terrain parks? The Appalachian is the place for you. There are three terrain parks for you to explore. Those with families or groups with diverse skills are still in luck, though! The non-threatening slopes and well-groomed runs are perfect for those just starting to hone their skills. One other great feature is their lift ticket system. Each flex ticket is good for eight consecutive hours. This means late-arriving skiers can ride into the evening hours if they choose.
Cataloochee Ski Area
Settled on the edge of the Smoky Mountains, Cataloochee Ski Resort is the oldest resort in the state. Five lifts lead to 18 runs and one terrain park, creating plenty of room for beginner and intermediate skiers. Furthermore, there is night skiing for those who are interested.
