Halloween is just around the corner, and we know you are looking for the best ways to celebrate! So we have taken a look around the Durham area and brought you the best in the area. Here are some Halloween attractions meant for everyone in the family!
Pumpkin Patch Express
Every Saturday and Sunday in October, the Museum of Life and Science takes visitors to their pumpkin patch by train! Hop on the Ellerbe Creek Railway to pick your pumpkin out of the patch to decorate. You can also enjoy the hay maze, nature bingo, duck races, and more. Tickets are $15 per person, and general admission to the museum. Check out more here!
BooFest
The Halloween fun at the Museum of Life and Science does not stop at their Pumpkin Patch Express. Take your kids to BooFest to create BooBubbles in their lab, enjoy a Not So Scary Story, and participate in many more enrichment activities. Costumes are encouraged. Tickets are $23. Buy yours here!
Spooktacular Halloween Built Story Tours
Built Story, a Durham group leading the way in self-guided tours, has created an app to show you the spookiest spots. First, download their app through the Apple Store or GooglePlay Store. Then search for either Halloween Homes in South Durham, Most Decorated, or Durham’s Most Terrifying and Mysterious Ghosts, Murders and Legends Tour. These two $10 tours have easily driveable paths with 10 and 17 stops, respectively. Read more about these tours HERE.
Rocky Horror Picture Show: Halloween Ball
After two decades of locals asking, the Carolina Theater and Retro Film Series have created a Halloween special that has become a tradition. They show an interactive viewing of the cult classic Rocky Horror Picture Show. So leave your kids at home and expect the performance of the ages. There will be light shows, fog machines, call-backing, and many costumes. Door prizes, grab bags, and concession specials will also be available. Tickets are $12.50. Click here for their rules.
Barktoberfest
Durham Parks and Recreation and Beyond Fences cater to Durham’s dog lovers. On October 29, bring your four-legged companion to Durham Central Park for a good cause. All proceeds will promote a dog-friendly community, pets, and their owners in underserved areas. Dress your pup in their favorite costume for a chance to win the costume contest. Enjoy live music as you browse the Pet Market and enjoy food and drinks. This event is free to attend but holds a canine food drive.
