In 2000, Beth and Sandy Baldwin’s 26-year-old son was diagnosed with melanoma. While he received treatment at a Pittsburgh facility, Beth and Sandy learned about the importance of a hospital hospitality home. They recognized just how needed it is in the time of a crisis. After their son passed, Beth and Sandy returned to Winston-Salem and created a similar home to honor the memory of their late son. After many years of hard work and collaboration, the SECU (State Employees’ Credit Union) Family House opened in 2011. Presently, they serve more than 2,000 families a year and many other outpatients who come in between treatments.
