Tiny House Living: Our Favorite Storage Tips

tiny house

Are you considering joining the tiny-house movement? It may seem like your current home can barely contain everything you need, and a tiny house could never house what you need. Did you know that tiny homes come equipped with their own storage innovations? As long as you know where to look, it can be pretty easy to find adequate storage space. Here are our favorite ways to create storage space in your tiny house.

Use Your Stairs

If you are not using under the stairs, you are leaving crucial storage space. Put it to good use and store your significantly sized items. Closets and even large appliances like refrigerators can fit right underneath the steps, meaning more personal space for you.

Check Under Floors

Your floorboards hold valuable space for storage. Store larger flat items like skis, ironing board, and anything else you can fit in that space. Large hatches and under-floor storage drawers give you easy access to those items you need to find a space for.

Remember Your Ceilings

Just like the floorboards, the ceilings can also hold storage space that is often overlooked. Between the rafters, you can tuck a varitey of items. Use drop-down ceiling storage store towels, shoe racks, dishes, or even TV’s. This keeps them out of the way when you don’t want them and easy to grab when you do!

Rethink The Support Beams

Support beams are sturdy, and therefore can handle weight for storage. Use your kitchen beams to hang pots and pans with S-hooks. Use living room and bedroom beams as shelves by connecting with matching materials. There are countless ways to use these beams if you need the space and make it wokr for your space.

Consider Your Furniture

Your furniture pieces would serve your tiny house better if they had storage compartments built into them. Everything from beds to bench seats to tables can be built or bought with secret storage spaces for your convenience. These can be used for extra pillors, blankets, art supplies, kids toys or whatever else you need to hide away! To create even more space, use pull-out counters and foldable tables to make small kitchens and workspaces bigger.

Decide What Comes In the Home

Make everything fit in your new home by getting rid of what you don’t need. You’re going to have to downsize if you want the tiny house life. Any item you won’t use consistently every week or month, leave it out. But just because you aren’t bringing it with you, doesn’t mean you have to throw it out! Any special item that you can’t bring with you can be kept in self storage. Keep your things while traveling through the country and come back to them whenever you need to.
