Did you know that nearly half of all food grown and distributed in America goes to waste? Since it’s creation in 1982, the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina has coordinated with over 460 partner programs to ensure the food that would have been wasted gets into the hands of the people that need it the most. Many of these partner programs rely on Second Harvest Food Bank’s donations to sustain its program.
The food bank moves 37 tons of food through their facility every single day. It goes without question that they rely heavily on their volunteers and we decided to join their efforts last week! Nisha, Suzette, and Meagan dedicated their Wednesday afternoon to sort through 4 panels of food donated by the local grocery stores. We had a ton of fun getting to know the food bank closer and can not wait to get more involved in the future!
